Human Services Minister leads community outreach in Ruimveldt
Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud MP, today spearheaded an outreach at Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Minister Persaud said the outreach is in keeping with a robust public engagement programme aimed at creating linkages between the people and Central Government.
She added that the outreach aims to ensure the public has access to key services being offered by the State. These include addressing issues linked to childcare, women empowerment, domestic violence, probation, and pension. The Minister and her team also distributed food hampers to the residents
“It is an excellent opportunity for me to have one-on-one engagement and feedback with people. It is something that I believe in, to know how our services are doing on the ground. It is excellent to hear from the people themselves because as you know, our tagline is that we promise and we deliver,” the Minister told DPI.
Meanwhile, DPI spoke with a few of the beneficiaries at the outreach.
One resident expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s intervention in his community of Riverview, as well as the services that were offered.
“I am so thankful for the Minister to come into our area and we can be interviewed and say what is our problem so that we can explain our problem here. I am so thankful so that my son can get into a computer system so that he can further his studies,” he said.
Another senior resident, Bibi, spoke of what the Minister’s hamper distribution means for her.
“I want to thank the Government for the hamper that they gave to us. I am 73-years-old and my husband is 80-years-old, so we need this,” she stated. Minister Persaud was accompanied by Director of the Childcare and Protection Agency, Ann Greene.
