Incident at No. 8 Secondary School

This missive seeks to address a news item aired on the evening of Thursday, September 27th, 2018 on the Channel 28 TVG News. The news item sought to report an incident whereby a student had attacked a teacher of the No. 8 Secondary School, West Coast Berbice.

In the news item the Head of the Schools’ Parent Teachers Association, Shivanie Devi Poone relayed words to the reporter which were allegedly uttered by the student in question. Her words were that the young man said that he is the great-nephew of the Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry.

However, it must be made categorically clear that the Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry is in no way related to the student nor does she have knowledge of who the student is.

Further, the Minister of Education stands fully against violence in schools and denounces the unfortunate event that took place. The matter is now in the hands of the Guyana Police Force and the Schools Welfare Department of Region Five and will be dealt with accordingly.
