Lima road repaired, more roads on the Essequibo Coast slated for upgrade

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, April 24, 2019

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure is undertaking some roadworks along the Essequibo Coast to improve the living standards of people in many of the communities. Recently, residents living in the village of Lima in Region 2, benefited from road infrastructural works conducted.

Regional Engineer within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Philip Amos provided the Department of Public Information (DPI) with an exclusive interview on the works done.

“We’ve broken up the existing road, we’ve levelled it, we’ve added crusher run and compacted it… We have sealed it and then put sand on the top. Afterwards, we blow away the sand, then we can [add] asphalt [to the road].”

Furthermore, the engineer highlighted areas that will be targeted for upgrades along the Essequibo Coast as part of the projects emanating from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s 2019 budget. These areas include Henrietta, Richmond, Anna Regina, Sparta, Suddie and Golden Fleece.

According to Amos, the condition of the roads, the population in the community, and the presence or absence of schools in the vicinity were the determining factors to identifying which of the roads needed to be a priority for upgrades.
