Linden fire victims get early start to get back on their feet
DPI, Guyana, Sunday, November 25, 2018
Victims of a recent fire in Blueberry Hill, Wismar Linden have received an overwhelming amount of assistance in the form of donations from regional officials and Minister of State, Joseph Harmon. The minister collaborated with a local entrepreneur to have over 700 blocks and loads of sand donated to the family, in order to expedite the reconstruction of their home before Christmas.
The Gordon family of six are appreciative for the overwhelming support from regional officials. Coming to their assistance, initially, was Member of Parliament, Jermaine Figueira who contacted the others to organise the relief effort.
Figueira, on behalf of the Non-governmental organisation, ‘Caring for Others’ donated clothing, food items and mattresses to the distraught family. Outgoing Mayor Waneka Arrindell and Deputy Mayor Wainwright Bethune also donated a bale of cement to the family. The Regional Executive Officer Orrin Gordon pledged to donate several zinc sheets to the family.
This is the second family within a month who, after having lost their home to fire, received much-needed assistance, spearheaded by Figueira. The MP said while he is happy to have been able to make a contribution, he is very satisfied with the involvement of the officials, his friends and residents of the community who began the self-help effort of the rebuilding of the home.
