MAY/JUNE 2020 CARIBBEAN ADVANCED PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION REPORT ON REVIEWS

BACKGROUND

In May/June 2020, eight hundred fifty three (853) candidates from ten (10) Secondary Schools and five (5) Private centres wrote the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination in Guyana.

The fifteen Examination Centres were:

            Region 10:     Mackenzie High School, Christianburg/Wismar Secondary

Region 6:    Berbice High, New Amsterdam Secondary, Guyana Private (090132)

            Region 4:     President’s College

            Region 3:     Saraswati Vidya Niketan

            Georgetown:   The Bishops’ High, Queen’s College, St Joseph’s High, St Rose’s High, St Stanislaus College, Marian Academy, Adult Education Association and Chase’s Academy.

A summary of entries over the past two (2) years is indicated below:

Candidates offered Units in thirty five (35) subject areas. Each Unit comprises of three Modules (equivalent to 150 credit hours), and is separately examined and certified.

Candidates from Guyana offered sixty six (66) units    at this year’s examination.

Review Status Update

The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has provided an update in relation to the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) reviews for Guyana. The review process consisted of the requested reviews in addition to what the Council considered ‘border line’ cases. Three hundred and eleven (311) subject entries were positively affected for CAPE.

CXC has reported that ninety three percent (93%) of the five hundred and twenty six (526) subject reviews from two hundred and nine (209) candidates for CAPE have been finalized for Guyana. The remaining thirty-three (33) subject reviews are currently being processed. One hundred and forty-five (145) grade changes were recorded while three hundred forty-eight (348) received no changes to their grades.
