Medical team deployed to Waramadong to detect Covid cases
-monitoring continues in Region Nine
The Ministry of Health has deployed a medical team to Waramadong, Cuyuni-Mazaruni (Region Seven) to determine the number of Covid positive cases in the village, following a spike in January.
During his COVID-19 update on Friday, Dr. Anthony said to date, 44 cases have been identified, even as monitoring continues there.
“They would be going to different parts in the Mazaruni to not only just check on the situation in Waramadong, but we are going to visit some of the other villages to ensure that persons in those villages are not positive, as well through testing. This approach will be ongoing work for the Ministry,” he said.
The Ministry is also monitoring the situation in Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo (Region Nine). While there are no reports of an outbreak there, the Ministry remains vigilant due to the discovery of a new strain of the disease in Brazil.
“We are constantly checking to make sure that we are not missing any cases. So, right now things are quiet, or relatively quiet, but it’s an area that we have a great interest in monitoring because what is happening in our neighbouring country in Roraima,” Minister Anthony added.
Some 7,887 Covid cases have been recorded countrywide, with 6,901 of those already recovered.
