Meeting between the Hon. Carl B. Greenidge Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs and His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Guyana

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guyana, December 15, 2016

Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Carl Greenidge, today met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Guyana, His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada.

During the meeting, His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada expressed appreciation for the support received from the Government of Guyana on various issues of mutual concern. He noted that earlier in the day, he signed a grassroots human security project for Waramadong Village, Upper Mazaruni, which would allow for the construction of a skills development centre where youth in the area would benefit from training in the areas of forestry, carpentry and small business management.

Furthermore, the hosting of a reception later in the day for the first time in Guyana in honour of the celebration of the eighty-third birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan was significant as it symbolized the importance that the Government of Japan placed on strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Guyana and Japan have a very cordial relationship based on mutual respect and understanding.
