Min. Norton extends condolences on passing of Mary Williams M.S.

The Honourable Minister of Social Cohesion with Responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. George Norton wishes to extend sincerest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Ms. Mary Williams.

Ms. Williams, a Former Vice Chairperson of Region Two (1980-1985) passed away at the Suddie Regional Hospital at approximately 05:30hrs on Friday, April 26, 2019. She was 70-years-old.

Hailing from Mainstay/Whyaka in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Ms. Williams was a recipient of the prestigious Medal of Service Award in 1977. She was also the Toshao of Mainstay/Whyaka from 1974-1986.

The Former teacher turned farmer played a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of many persons, and families in her community.  During the months leading up to her passing, Ms. Williams was even actively pursuing the resuscitation of a pineapple farm in the region.

Ms. Williams’s many contributions towards the improvement of her country are admirable, and worthy of emulation.

She will forever be remembered for her resilience and passion towards the development of Guyana and the residents of her community.

Known for her vibrant, intelligent and energetic personality, Ms. Williams is survived by her common-law husband of 40-years, Mr. David France, along with her seven children, 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
