Min. Norton pleased with department’s allocation 

– over $480M allocated for Department of Social Cohesion in 2019 National Budget

– efforts geared at early implementation of sport and youth programmes

– initiatives to address youth unemployment being conceptualised

Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. George Norton is pleased with his department’s allocation of over $480Million in the 2019 National Budget. The budget was presented on November 26 by Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan.

Minister Norton said efforts will be made by his department to ensure that several programmes, which have been granted individual allocations, will be implemented early in 2019, especially those related to sport and youth development.

The minister is hopeful that in the coming year several initiatives will be conceptualised to address the issue of youth employment.

He said programmes geared towards building social cohesion will continue into the new year with renewed vigor.

In the 2019 Budget, some $1.1Billion dollars has been allocated for cultural programmes and $1.7Billion for youth initiatives.
