More sponsors support Golden Jubilee celebrations

Georgetown, GINA, May 9, 2016

Sponsors continue to support Guyana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, with four more joining those already on board. The latest sponsors are Guyana Beverage Inc., the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Guyana, GAICO Construction and General Services and VSH- United (Guyana) Inc.

The cheques were presented today by representatives from each sponsor at the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, Colgrain House to Guyana Tourism Authority’s (GTA) Director, Indranauth Haralsingh and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, Derrick Cummings.

Haralsingh thanked the various sponsors for their contribution, noting that without their support, the events would not be possible. He noted that the Ministry is on course to host the much anticipated Jubilee Festival. “With 10 days to go, I must say that we are ready to host one of Guyana’s largest festivals,” Haralsingh stated.

Permanent Secretary Cummings noted that Public-Private Sector partnerships are important towards moving Guyana forward. “We believe in strong partnerships, we believe that the public sector must also have a very close relationship with the private sector,” he stated.

VSH- United (Guyana) Inc. which has been involved in infrastructural development for over 20 years donated $1M. Representative, Dwayne Scott noted that, “VSH united is very happy to be associated with this celebration and of course for the opportunity to be a part of the festivities.”

The Association of Chinese Enterprises in Guyana, GAICO Construction and General Services and Guyana Beverage Inc. donated $500,000 each.  Shawn Hera, senior manager of Guyana Beverage Inc.  said that the company was excited to get involved in the event since it would be their first time sponsoring such an event. “We have been contributing over the years to all the sporting events that we (Guyana) have and now we want to take it to another level, and participate in a lot of other events, cultural and whatever it may be.”

Those already on board are : Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT), Digicel Guyana, Singers (Guyana), Banks DIH, Fly Jamaica, Caribbean Airlines, Impressions, King’s Jewellery World, Top Brands, Windsor Estates, Ramada Princess Hotel, Correia Group of Companies, Pritipaul Singh Investments, Rusal, and 704 Sports Bar.

 Haralsingh pointed out that over $22.5M has been donated by sponsors for the Jubilee festival which is slated to take place from May 19 to 22, 2016 at the Guyana National Stadium as part of the celebrations for Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
