MOTP-DSCCYS Responds to misleading KN article

The Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport (MOTP-DSCCYS) wishes to respond to an inaccurate and misleading article carried by Kaieteur News on May 7, 2019.

The piece, which touts the headline, “Cabinet to examine Gov’t assistance for embattled boxer, Terrence Ali,” is not a true reflection of the comment provided by the Honourable Subject Minister, Dr. George Norton.

It should be made categorically clear that Minister Norton was not referring to the tabling of any motion to provide Government assistance for any one person. Rather, Minister Norton commented on an upcoming Cabinet review of the National Sports Policy (DRAFT), which caters to the comprehensive development of Sports in Guyana, including compensation for all athletes who have excelled in various disciplines.

The aforementioned Ministry looks forward to a correction of the article in the subsequent edition of the newspaper.
