NAMS CSEC, CAPE graduates urged to “climb to higher heights”
– New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School graduates CSEC and CAPE students
– attained pass rate of 89.49% in grades one to three at 2018 CSEC Examination.
– Pass rates improved 10.4% over the previous year
– NAMS recognised as most improved Senior Secondary School in the country

Former Regional Education Officer of Region Six and Principal of the Cyril Potter College of Education (in-service) Shafiran Bhajan, during her feature address at the 2018 graduation ceremony and thanksgiving service of the New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMS), urged all graduates to continue “climbing to higher heights”.
Bhajan received a resounding applause when she highlighted the important measures that one can consider to gain a successful life. She urged the class of 2018 to be disciplined, committed and always acknowledge those who have contributed to their successes.
Newly appointed Head Teacher, Vanessa Jacobs remarked that NAMS, this year, has attained a pass rate of 89.49 per cent in grades one to three at the 2018 CSEC Examination. This is an improvement of 10.4 per cent over the previous year.
“A total of one hundred and thirty-six grade ones, two hundred and seventy-three grade twos, one hundred and ninety-six Grade Threes, sixty-nine Grade Fours and two Grade Fives were obtained… Mr. Chairman, I am pleased to inform you that this performance has earned NAMS the enviable position of the most improved Senior Secondary School in the country,” Jacob highlighted.
Additionally, the Head Teacher noted that two students of the institution have earned places on the regional merit lists at both CAPE and CSEC. They are Charran Woarti who copped the number one CSEC spot for Industrial Technology Mechanical and Sherlyn Semple who placed number three at the Law Unit 2.
Delivering the charge to the graduates was Jackie Benn-Ralph, past principal of the NAMS and current Head Teacher of Queens’ College. Benn-Ralph encouraged the class of 2018 to always remain on top of their academics, “make your own impact and influence others”.
“I challenge you to transform the skills and talents that you would have gained to make a difference in your community, country and world. You have just completed one chapter in your educational journey and you are about to start writing another one, just remember as you climb take all you would have learned along with you,” Benn-Ralph said.
Ronecca Arjune, who gained nine Grade Ones, two Grade Twos and four Grade Threes, emerged as the top student for this year’s CSEC. She also received trophies for best student in English Literature, Agricultural Science, Biology and Theatre Arts.
Meanwhile, Valedictorian, Yevnie Sukra reminded her colleagues about the sacrifices which were made and how they worked for the good.
Sukra encouraged her fellow graduates to “never stop believing in the person you are and in the person you can be. Be who you needed to be when you were younger. It definitely can’t get better than that.”
