DPI, Guyana, Friday, January 11, 2019

Residents transacting business at the New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council will now be treated to improved services compliments of resident and known businessman, Danzie Rajnauth who, Friday morning, handed over several items to the Town Council.

Businessman, Danzie Rajnauth handing over the equipment to a member of the New Amsterdam Municipality.

The items handed over include among other pieces of equipment, a water dispenser, several chairs, an electric fan, which will all lend comfort to residents when paying their rates and taxes.

During the small handing over ceremony, Rajnauth remarked that the kind gesture was done as a way of showing his appreciation to the municipality and by extension the township. He said it will help to further enhance the services offered to residents and himself.

Rajnauth, who resides in Guyana’s oldest town for 19-years, noted his satisfaction with the work that the municipality has been doing and the development the town has already seen.

“I know that Rome wasn’t built in a day and we have to start somewhere. I am very happy to also hear that this year, after a long time, you were able to retain the highest amount of tax. That shows that the township has gained back its confidence in the municipality,” the donor told the Mayor and team present while encouraging other business owners to give towards the upliftment of New Amsterdam.

Speaking at the exercise, the town’s Mayor, Winifred Haywood said the donation is a timely one, especially when the municipality is on the drive to give better services to its citizens. Haywood expressed thanks to the donor and promised that the items received will be properly managed and used for their intended purpose.

Witnessing the event were newly elected Deputy Mayor, Wainwright McIntosh, Town Clerk Sharon Alexander and Councilor of the town’s social committee, Patricia Lynch.
