NGSA student has Presidential ambitions

Throughout primary school, many students dream about their future, some even begin to form an inkling of what they want to do with the rest of their life. Eleven-year-old Devine Amsterdam of the New Guyana School knows exactly what she wants to be – the future President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
Eleven-year-old Devine Amsterdam of New Guyana School who gained 528 marks and placement at Queen’s College, after writing this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations.
With 528 marks under her belt, Amsterdam was among the top ten students at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations, which earned her a place at Queens College.
The bright-eyed Amsterdam sees herself playing an instrumental role in influencing policies that will improve the way of life for people worldwide. “I think presidents have more power to make the world a better place. So yes, I want to become the next President of Guyana.”
According to Amsterdam, the announcement of her achievement came as a shock. “When I received the news… I was really shocked I cannot explain the feeling, but I was really happy… it was an extraordinary feeling for me and my family,” she explained.
Crediting her success to hard work, Amsterdam said there were sacrifices made which included cutting back on her use of electronic gadgets. “I had to give up some of my playtime; I had to read more books, less of my fictional books and more non-fictional books.” She also credits her parents, friends and teachers for helping with her studies.
The aspiring future president advises students preparing to write the NGSA in 2020 to “study hard but remember to relax as well. You must have a balance.”
