Minister of Citizenship, Winston Felix today said that there has not been another government that was able to achieve as much as the coalition has done within its first term in office.
From the decentralisation of government services to the expansion and building of new roads to the massive increase in salaries for public servants, the Coalition Government has been working in the best interest of all Guyanese.
Engaging residents of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank of Demerara (WBD), Minister Felix said the major accomplishments of the government a year shy of its five-year term, speaks volumes of its commitment to the people.
According to Minister Felix, following the administration’s assumption to office, the Department of Citizenship immediately began the decentralisation of the passport office. Offices have since been established in New Amsterdam and Linden. Offices will also be established in other capital towns.
The government was also able to build a significant number of roads in various parts of the country including the Rupununi, Minister Felix said.
“We are doing what is best for the country,” he added.
Added to the road projects, Minister Felix said the government has increased old age pension from $10,000 in 2015, to over $20,000.
He said President David Granger has been aggressively pursuing an improved education sector. Out of the $300.7Billion budget for 2019, $52Billion has been allocated to education. Extensive work has also been put into the overall performance of students at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), the minister said.
Apart from understanding the value of education, Minister Felix said President Granger is also preparing the population to meet the demands of the upcoming oil wealth.
Addressing residents too, Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Jaipaul Sharma said Guyanese can look forward to a significant transformation of the country within the next five years with the upcoming oil wealth.
Having been working in finance for decades, Minister Sharma said he has never seen any other government expending as much money as the coalition has been ‘spending.
“If you go to Region 9 there is incubator centre, the government has expanded roads all across the country. This government is creating an enabling environment to ensure that citizens thrive. It is always about providing service.”
Among the issues raised by residents were street lights, drainage, and empty plots of land with overgrown bushes. The ministers assured that the issues will be communicated to the relevant ministries.
