Orealla, Siparuta residents receive COVID-19 cash grant

Residents of Orealla and Siparuta, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six), have benefited from the Government’s $25,000 COVID-19 relief cash grant.

The distribution exercise to every household in the two riverine villages started on Monday.

Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha and Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat were present to oversee the distribution.

One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Ann Henry says she was anticipating the day when she would receive her grant.

“I am feeling really happy receiving this $25,000 from our Government because this will help me. I do hope that this wouldn’t be the end,” an elated Ms. Henry told DPI.

The woman underscored that she will be investing her cash “into something tangible so that I can remember this day.”

Another resident, Ms. Reita Romulo plans to restock her cupboard with groceries in the coming days.  “I am very thankful for this,” the mother of six exclaimed.

The $25,000 per household cash grant is among several measures His Excellency, Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali announced to cushion the effects of COVID-19. Households across the country have already benefited from the ongoing exercise. Meanwhile, the Ministers also distributed a quantity of equipment and gear to boost sport in Orealla.
