Over 200 nurses recognised by RDC Four

The Region Four Health Department on May 12, presented awards to several of its outstanding nurses, while promising to improve the conditions under which they perform their tasks.
This event was held in observance of International Nurses week, at the Region Four RDC.

Describing nursing as the world’ best profession, Regional Vice-Chairman, Earl Lambert encouraged the nurses to be proud of themselves. Lambert said nurses are often at the receiving end of several stinging and unfair criticisms when in actuality they are seeking to do their best.
He highlighted that the RDC is aware of the many difficulties and challenges faced by nurses, hence the administration’s commitment to ensuring the improvement of the conditions under which they work. “Let me remind you that we at RDC Four are cognisant of your challenges and we are working towards improving these…which will be demonstrated by our actions.”
Regional Health Officer (RHO) Dr Quincy Jones confirmed that plans are in train for the improvement of the working environment of nurses.
The event was sponsored by Ansa Mc Al Trading Limited as a demonstration of the value they place on the role of nurses.
The awards for Best Surveillance Centre were presented to Low Wood and Mon Repos Health Centres; while Soesdyke and Victoria Health Centres were presented with Best Vaccination Coverage Centre awards.
The Most Integral Health Centre award was won by Golden Grove and Mahaica Health Centres; Most Outstanding Primary Health Care Nurse awards were presented to Teneka Pollard of Mocha Health Centre and Midwife, Hemwattie Persaud attached to the Clonbrook Health Centre.
The Most Outstanding Secondary Health Care Nurse (SHC) was awarded to Latoya Anderson, Dessa Cummings and Magalis Ortiz; Patricia Thomas and Midwife Lavern Amsterdam were both recognised as Primary Health Centre Role Model Nurses; the Secondary Health Centre Role Model Nurse was bestowed on Leola Charles-Austin and Rene Cappelle-Sealey while Dedicated Community Health Worker awards were presented to Ehumrajie Deonarine of Lugisnan Health Centre and Liea Phillips of the Kuru Kururu Health Centre.
