Parika youth group receives racquets from Min. Norton

DPI, Guyana, Friday, May 3, 2019

The Visionary Youth Group based in Parika, Region 3, today received two racquets and over a dozen tennis balls from the Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton.

On Thursday, May 2, 2019, Minister Norton officially handed over the items to Sharon Ross, the Leader of the group.

According to Ross, the group has been established for over a year now and has been making a difference in the lives of dozens of young people in Parika.

With over 30 members, the group has a cricket, football and tennis team, and is currently seeking to improve on several of its programmes. “We want to get more members, be more organized and participate more in sport and other programmes that will help our young people.”

She explained that during a recent ‘Bringing Government to the People’ outreach in Region 3, members of the group visited Minister Norton to communicate some of their needs.

“We are very glad that we were able to meet him, and we are even happier that he is so willing to help us,” Ross noted.

In addition to the items received on Thursday, Minister Norton also committed to providing the group with 25 pieces of uniform for their sport teams. That presentation will be made shortly.
