DPI, Guyana, Thursday, February 27, 2020

Prime Minister, Hon. Moses Nagamootoo has met several regional and international observer mission teams ahead of Monday’s General and Regional Elections.

During Thursday’s meetings, the Prime Minister provided clarity and reiterated the Coalition Government’s commitment to a transparent electoral process.

“I repeated the President’s assurance that these elections would be credible, free and fair, and free from fear.”

Deeming the engagements fruitful, PM Nagamootoo expressed his satisfaction with the responses he received from the delegations.

“I think they understand the turf, they understand the nature of the Guyana society and they are also very optimistic of what they have seen and what they said … they haven’t seen any incidents that would raise their concerns,” he stated.

The delegations were from the Organization of American States, the UNDP, and the CARICOM Electoral Observation Mission.

Deputy Chief of Mission Melene Glynn, Campaign Financial Expert, Paul Spencer, and Christina Garcia comprised the OAS delegation.

The UNDP’s delegation included Resident Representative Mikiko Tanaka, Rae Ann Pearl, Friedrich Boehm, and Illona Alexander.

Meanwhile, the CARICOM delegation was led by Cynthia Cleopatra Combie Martyr, who was accompanied by Valerie Alleyne-Odle and Valique Gomes.
