President Ali advises Cabinet to work remotely

— after Foreign Affairs Minister tests positive for COVID-19

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, August 12, 2020

His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, this afternoon announced that Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Hugh Todd, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Minister Todd informed the President that he encountered an individual who tested positive for COVID19 and decided to be tested.

In a nationwide address, the President stated that he advised all Members of Cabinet to be tested.

“I have advised Ministers to work remotely until they receive the results of their tests.”

The Head of State said he has committed to conducting the affairs of the Government transparently.

“There is no greater issue that requires transparency at every level, than in the way we address the COVID-19 pandemic.”

His Excellency emphasised that the global COVID-19 pandemic must be addressed frontally.

“My Government has taken a holistic and comprehensive approach which prioritise testing, increase provision of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and interagency collaboration. I commit to doing everything necessary to ensure the safety of every Guyanese.”

He encouraged all Guyanese to observe all guidelines to remain safe during this time.
