Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha

Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha made this disclosure today noting that the new body will include representatives from the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), the Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) and the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), among other agencies.

While spending his fourth day as Agri-Minster, visiting flood-affected communities on the Corentyne, the Minister expressed the view that should this initiative be implemented, there would be a more developed and enhanced agricultural network in the region.

“[With this on stream] we can have a collaborative effort between theses entities; everyone could work together,” the Agri-Minister posited.

He explained that over the years, there has been a complete breakdown of communication within the agriculture fraternity.

“I am going to re-establish these bodies so that they can work, and work closely with one another,” the Minister reiterated.

He emphasised that every official from the Agriculture Ministry must work to the best of their ability and meet the expectation of the citizens.

He told the residents that they must hold the officers accountable, and once the work is not completed, the officers will have to explain openly to the community members why there was a delay in accomplishing their mandate.
