Statement by Prime Minister Hon. Moses Nagamootoo

DE SOUZA WAS A CULTURAL ICON

It is with sadness that I learned about the death of former Minister Vibert De Souza. We became friends since the mid-70s when he was introduced to me by the late Captain Fazal Khan. At the time he was, together with his brothers Marco and Dion, a talented guitarist/singer. For a while I joined his creole group.

In 1995 he served with me as junior minister within the Ministry of Local Government which held the portfolio of Amerindian Affairs for which he was responsible.

Years later he became an AFC member.

Vibert was a cultural icon, an advocate of the rights of our First Peoples and foremost a proud Moruca boy.

I have only good memories of my late comrade and friend, and send deepest sympathies to his wife Rita, their children and the rest of the De Souza family.
