“Stick with your government”- Minister Felix

-first government Minister to visit Kartabo in four decades

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, June 19, 2019

At the first community meeting headed by a government minister in over 40 years in Kartabo, Region Seven, Minister of Citizenship Winston Felix urged residents to, “stick with your government.”

Minister Felix explained that the Coalition government is interested in developing communities, hence the reason for the outreaches and community meetings being held throughout the country.

This he said was reflected in the increased pension for senior citizens, increased minimum wage, the decentralisation of government services, better health care and access to education. Minister Felix also pointed to the over 100 ICT hubs installed in communities countrywide and the half dozen community radio stations established in several regions.

With that, he called on the residents to beware of the lies that will be spread by the opposition to regain office. “You have to be careful; the wolf will come to you in sheep’s clothing,” the Minister warned. He reminded despite being in power for 23 years, the opposition has done nothing geared towards the development of hinterland communities.

He warned that the opposition wants to hold office simply to “get their hands on the oil money that is set to transform Guyana. A vote for the opposition is a backward step and a chance for them to fill their own pockets.”

The government, Minister Felix said can only move forward with the support of the people. With elections just around the corner, he called on them to make the comparison and make an informed decision when it is time to cast their vote.

Residents were also made aware that the president has accepted the decision of the Caribbean Court of Justice and that elections will be held when advised by GECOM but not without a clean list.

“We are not going to an election with a dirty list” stressing that the government is “going to have credible elections.”

Minister Felix also made it clear that the government is not afraid of elections and is ready for the polls.”
