Warriors looking to put early pressure on St. Lucia Stars

DPI, Guyana, Friday, August 10, 2018

The Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW), coming off an impressive victory last evening against the St. Kitts and Nevis’ Patriots, are looking to repeat the achievement with another win when they face the St. Lucia Stars tomorrow.

At a press briefing today, Keemo Paul, who bowled exceptionally well in the Warriors opening game said that he is anticipating another good bowling performance. ā€œI am looking forward to bowling the ā€˜death oversā€™ and to do it for the Warriors is an honour. I am just embracing the opportunity that has been given to me.ā€

Head Coach of the GAW, Johan Botha said that there are a few things that the team can improve on. He pointed specifically to avoiding giving away extra runs and not losing too many wickets within the powerplay which he described as ā€œa bit of a scareā€ during last eveningā€™s match for the team.

Nevertheless, he is confident that once the pressure is applied early to a wounded Stars team the Warriors will be able to pull off another home win. The St. Lucia Stars, in their opening match, suffered a devastating loss against the Trinbago Knight Riders losing by 100 runs.

ā€œWhen you had a loss, you try to bounce back as quickly as you can and I think they will come and try to do that tomorrow night so it is up to us to keep on top of our game and keep the pressure on themā€ Botha stated.

The Head Coach commended the young cricketers Shimron Hetmyer and Kemo Paul who were instrumental in last eveningā€™s win. However, Botha said if the Warriors are to win the tournament, it will take a collective approach.
