25 youth participating in Natural Resources workshop

Twenty-five young Guyanese on Monday benefitted from a ‘Youth in Natural Resources IV workshop and poster exhibition,’ hosted by the Guyana Mining School and Training Centre Incorporated at the Regency Suites Hotel.

The initiative aims to provide technical knowledge and skills that would help youth to enhance the extractive industry.

Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Vishal Ambedkar in his address to the youth, on behalf of Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, said the Government is interested in the sustainable development of its resources.

“Whether it’s gold, diamond, bauxite, or newly found petroleum industry, Government continues to work hard to ensure that our resources are developed.” Mr. Ambedkar said.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Mr. Newell Dennison told participants that the programme would enhance their quality of life.

“I can assure you that you are going to experience some significant and very life-changing events, which in many ways, will bring context and understanding of the longstanding tradition that we in Guyana have taken and have been using as a critical aspect of our survival, economically and socially.”

During a similar engagement at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre last month, Minister Bharrat had said youths should capitalise on the opportunities provided by the programme, as there is the lack of skilled workers in the industry.
