The simple ceremony took place during the ongoing National Toshaos’ Conference being held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

Twenty toshaos from Region One (Barima Waini) took the oath of office before the packed auditorium. Twenty-four from Regions Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Four (Demerara-Mahaica), Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) and Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), thirteen from Region Eight (Potaro Siparuta), twenty-seven from Region Nine (Upper Takatu- Upper Essequibo) and six from Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice).

Magistrate McClennan told the new office bearers that the “nation is depending on you” although they will be operating in the hinterland regions.

“You are to ensure that you can identify the person before you,” she said cautioning them to be careful with the persons who will come before them.

“Your integrity, your trust is in your hands,” McClennan told the toshaos.
