Today, the streets of Georgetown were busy as parents and guardians flocked downtown vendors as they finalised their back-to-school shopping. Most parents were in cashing in on bargains for stationary and uniforms and for the new school term which is scheduled to commence on Monday, September 3.

Althea Louis, an eager parent told the Department of Public Information (DPI), “I have already purchased the majority of my things since I found prices were reasonable and supplies were easy to find.” Louis said the streets have been teeming with fellow parents like herself. “The congestion of the people. Sometimes you try to get into a store and it is so packed,” Louis said.

Ariel Alleyne, another parent who was among the many school shoppers said “Well it’s been kind of hectic for me going up and down with the kids. But so far, I have gotten everything that I needed. I am just getting the last-minute shopping done.”

Guardian, Joy Patterson, who was purchasing school items for her grandson, said she her shopping was “coming along reasonably well,” and was almost complete

Many vendors said their businesses are benefitting from the back to school rush. They have seen increased sales as the days to the new school term draws nearer.
