Coalition Administration “intact” after three years in office- Min. Gaskin

-rubbishes Opposition “unravelling” claims

-parties enjoy good relations

DPI, GUYANA, Friday, May 25, 2018

After three years in office, the Coalition Administration is “intact” and is maintaining good relations among all partners.

This assurance was today given by Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin, who rubbished claims by the Opposition that the “Coalition is unravelling.”

“We certainly didn’t notice this”, said Minister Gaskin. According to the minister, major problems do not exist among the parties that constitute the Coalition Administration.

“I think it’s to our credit that we have been able to make this thing work”, he opined while noting that many coalition governments do not usually last this long. However, at the local government level, Minister Gaskin believes that government is not functioning as well as it is centrally.

The parties came together to contest the General elections under the Cummingsburg Accord but this system does not obtain at the local government level.

Minister Gaskin explained an agreement has to be broached for the parties to contest the Local Government Elections (LGE) as a Coalition. Further, the Minister said, joint financing for the LGE is something which can be discussed.
