Cuban Foreign Minister pays respect to Guyana’s independence

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, June 15, 2019

Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Gonzalez Parrilla continues his visit to Guyana and earlier today laid a floral tribute at Guyana’s Independence Arch.

Located on Brickdam, near Vlissengen Road, the National Independence Arch was a gift to the people of Guyana from the Demerara Bauxite Company to commemorate the country’s independence from Great Britain on May 26, 1966.

The arch, which was designed by Canadian engineer, Edric Klak, consists of three tubes made of aluminium from Guyana’s bauxite and is mounted on a quartz base.

The Cuban dignitary visited the historic site to pay his respects.

H.E Parrilla then headed over to Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he met with the Minister with responsibility for that sector, Dr. Karen Cummings, for bilateral talks.
