DPI, Guyana, Monday, September 2, 2019
Education Month 2019, themed Education: ‘Key to National Development’ was officially launched yesterday.
Delivering remarks at the launch was Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Nicolette Henry who explained that having a $52.2Billion budgetary allocation indicates the government’s seriousness in investing in Guyana’s future.
“This investment in education is critical and crucial to the development of this nation. It was John Dewey who stated that education is not preparation for life, education is life itself,” Minister Henry said.
She also reiterated the government’s commitment to creating an education nation.
“I cannot have a session without recognizing and re-emphasizing the government’s commitment and its continuous efforts to support, prepare and train our teachers to deliver excellence in the classroom,” she added.
Chief Education Officer, Dr. Marcel Hutson noted that the launch marks the beginning of another chapter in the history of Guyana’s education system. “Today, we are here to recognise what we have done in education and what we will continue to do by celebrating Education Month,” Dr. Hutson explained.
Education Month is observed annually in September and involves a host of month-long activities.
