Urgent rehabilitative works budgeted at $11.9Million were recently completed on the Linden-Lethem road between Wisroc and Rockstone Junction.
The stretch of road which was once uneven and inundated during the rainy season is now a paved laterite road.
Region Ten Engineer, Steve Dey told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the works were executed by International Import and Supplies and covered six kilometres of roadway.
“These works are as a result of the road deteriorating and several vehicles were often stuck when it rained heavily. So, the ministry decided to conduct emergency works to address this,” Dey explained. The upgrades were completed in July last.
Meanwhile, Cassurina Drive, Montgomery Richmond Hill and Hospital Road Wismar are the three urban road projects are slated for Linden in 2018. Dey pointed out that so far rehabilitative work on Cassurina Drive has been completed, while the contractor is currently mobilising to begin repairs to Montgomery Richmond Hill and Hospital Road Wismar.
“On Cassurina Drive we’ve had sectional repairs and this covered 1.2 kilometres of road with asphalt concrete. There were some alligator cracks and depressions on the road that were all fixed for at a cost of $9 Million.” Dey said the repairs were completed two weeks ago.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure receives an annual budgetary allocation for rehabilitation and construction works on hinterland, urban and miscellaneous roads. Budget 2018 has made provision for $800Million for the continuation of urban works and $1.5Billion for road rehabilitation in Regions One, Seven, Eight, Nine and Ten.
