FAREWELL FEROZE
May 3, 2020 – It is with sadness that I learned that Feroze Mohamed has died yesterday. All his life, Feroze was steadfast to the cause of the working class, and his death on May Day must be a tribute to his dedication.
While associated with him, his ascendancy to the leadership of both the PYO and the PPP was unprecedented, especially after he returned from studies in the former Soviet Union. He became First Secretary of the PYO, and was elevated quickly to the Central/Executive Committee of the PPP. Feroze later became a Member of Parliament and Minister of Home Affairs.
I have shared a long and sustained relationship with Feroze both at the personal and family levels. I have memorable moments working together with him, and travelling overseas – the first dating back to 1967 when we went to Mongolia.
Feroze was addicted to reading. But he became versed in tenets of Marxism-Leninism, which he stoutly promoted and defended at all levels of the PPP. The Feroze whom I knew over many years exhibited no arrogance, no individualism. He had a calm disposition, and a simple lifestyle. Over the years that I have known him, I could attest to his honesty and incorruptibility.
Sita and I, and all of our children who remember “Uncle Feroze”, convey our deepest sympathy to Kamla and their son at their loss. “Farewell Feroze”.
