First virtual bodybuilding competition set for December 12

– 36 athletes to compete
-COVID-19 measures in place

The Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport is collaborating to host their first virtual “Resilience” Bodybuilding and Fitness Competition.

The event, which is scheduled for December 12 at the National Cultural Centre will see 36 athletes vying for the top spot.

In keeping with the COVID-19 measures, the competition will be live-streamed on social media platforms.  Competitors, personnel and judges are also expected to conform to the preventative measures.

The event aims to celebrate life, fitness and resilience, while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Bodybuilding athletes will be competing in four segments: Bodybuilding Light Weight (165 pounds and lower), Bodybuilding Heavy Weight (166 pounds and heavier), the Bikini Segment, and Men’s Physique completing the list.

The reigning Mr. Guyana, Mr. Marlon “Bolo” Bennett; reigning Ms. Guyana Bikini Champion, Ms. Rosanna Fung and the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships finalist, Mr. Darius Ramsammy are among the nation’s top athletes in the competition.

CAC Gold Medallist, and five-time winner of Mr. Guyana. Mr. Kerwin Clarke is also expected to make a special appearance.

The overall winner of the competition will walk away with $200,000, and the three finalists in each segment will receive $100,000, $70,000, and $50,000 respectively.
