Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Monday, August 10, 2020

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Hugh Todd, today met with United States Ambassador to Guyana, Her Excellency, Sarah-Ann Lynch.

In her congratulatory message to the Foreign Minister, Ambassador Lynch said the United States looks forward to working with Guyana, especially in the areas of security, governance, education, manufacturing, services, tourism, oil and gas, economic growth and development, and health.

“We remain committed to continuing to support Guyana’s future development in these areas,” Ambassador Lynch said.

Expressing his gratitude to the American Ambassador for her country’s continued support, Minister Todd stated that he too looks forward to working closely with her and colleagues in “mutually beneficial areas”.

“The Government’s approach is very focused on markets… We will, therefore, rely heavily on the United States for multinational and business investors; for you to encourage US investors while ensuring space for local content.”

Minister Todd and Ambassador Lynch also discussed economic cooperation and inclusive governance, among other areas of mutual interest.

Guyana and the United States have continued to maintain a high level of bilateral cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations on August 15, 1966.
