Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally, this evening, made a passionate plea to residents of Enmore Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD) to put race aside and support the developments emerging across the country.
Addressing a massive community meeting at the Enmore/Hope Primary School, Minister Ally said the developments under the Coalition Government are too much for citizens to be blindsided by race when selecting leaders to govern the country.
“This is a modern age. You must support development. We have gone past the issue of race. If we embrace issues and competence, we will return this government to office to develop this country at large.”
According to the minister, the government has been in office for a mere four years. During those years, she said, much has been accomplished, including raising the consciousness of the people about what is being done.
“You are living it, you are feeling it, and you know it to your heart that this government has done quite a lot to develop this country. This is not the time for race politics. I encourage you to think about yourselves, think about the little ones who will be the future of tomorrow. Make the right choice,” she said to rousing applause.
The minister said there is no doubt that the Coalition, under the leadership of President David Granger, has been providing the “good life” for all.
“You have a good president; you have a man who is honest, a man who has integrity and a man who has a vision for this country,” she recorded.
The expanse of development, she said, can be seen in improved infrastructure, including drainage and irrigation and housing. She also addressed the massive increase in old-age pension and the improvements in the education sector.
“This government wants to continue its development. This government wants to continue what it started. This government wants to give its people a good life. Live in unity. Love is the answer. Throw away race, throw away hate. Let’s live in unity.”
