Govt reassures mining syndicates of its support

DPI, Guyana, Friday June 28, 2019

The National Mining Syndicates has been reassured of government’s support. During a meeting held on June 28, Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman said:

“We are happy that we can meet with the syndicates and see where they are as we take up the mantle from Minister Broomes, who established a firm foundation for them.”

The National Mining Syndicates is the brainchild of the former Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes. The organisation plays an instrumental role in ensuring small miners have a more substantial stake in the mining sector. Minister Broomes has since taken up a new portfolio at the Ministry of the Presidency.

Minister Trotman reassured the body that the government supports its Executive, as they work collaboratively to develop the mining industry.

“We discussed some of their issues and hindrances and possible solutions. This meeting is also a precursor to the launch of their national constitution.”

As the discussions got underway, the minister answered several questions relating to access roads leading to mining lands and the government’s mining lottery.
