Greaves did not contract COVID-19 at hospital – GPHC

The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a recent statement has refuted all claims that Donna Greaves, Guyana’s latest COVID-19 death, contracted the contagious and deadly virus while seeking treatment at the facility.
GPHC said that while medical confidentiality restricts them from releasing the patient’s medical records, the claims published in the media are “furthest from the facts, definitively states that “Donna Greaves did not contract COVID-19 at the GPHC”.
“We strongly condemn the proclivity to cast blame on our hard-working and dedicated doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who continue to risk their lives daily to care for patients in the wake of a deadly pandemic. This practice of demoralising healthcare professionals must cease,” the release stated,
GPHC maintained that it practices strict protocols and quality control measures to prevent transmission at the hospital and to maintain a safe space for staff, patients, and visitors. It called on the media to be more responsible in their reporting.
Greaves, a 25-year-old Region Nine teacher, who is recorded as Guyana’s 15th COVID-related death, succumbed this morning at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being admitted on July 1.
The Board of Directors, Administration, and staff of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation extended condolences to the husband and family of the deceased.
The Corporation also reminded Guyanese that COVID-19 is real and called on them to adhere to all the guidelines to flatten the COVID curve.
