GTA website redesigned to inform, inspire and influence travel

– ‘South American Undiscovered’ website launched to promote destination Guyana

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, July 19, 2018

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) officially launched the South American Undiscovered website today at the Cara Lodge Hotel.

Director of GTA, Brian Mullis said the website, which was redesigned under a 90-day span, will appeal to the diaspora and locals.

“We have to raise awareness about what makes Guyana distinctive from every other destination region around the world. Our audience has to know that Guyana offers experiences that they cannot find anywhere else in the world,” Mullis said.

The director added that the core audience in the travel and tourism industry has been seeking after authentic nature, culture and adventurous experiences, which he believes destination Guyana has to offer.

“Participation in cultural tourism is increasing faster than the growth rate of the tourism sector worldwide; this is why the GTA has been targeting those areas,” Mullis said.

According to the GTA Director, the website now in its first phase was redesigned to inform, inspire and influence travel. He explained that it is easy to navigate and user-friendly.

The user-friendly website offers an interactive map which highlights all the regions in Guyana and details of activities in those regions. Others high points of the website include top destinations to visit, a blog section, ‘plan your trip’ which highlights trusted modes of transportation, accommodation, top spots to hang, various tour agencies, among others.

Going forward, the GTA team intends to keep the website active by updating it regularly with fresh content and images. According to Mullis, this will keep the marketing content fresh and respond to the increasing market demands. Emphasis will be placed on facilitating the development of new products and improving the industry standards.

The director noted that continued partnership with the tourism private sector is also key on the agenda in promoting destination Guyana.

Attending the launch was Minister of Business with responsibility for Tourism, Dominic Gaskin who commended the GTA on the website launch. “We have a lot of products to offer and tourism is certainly a game changer for that.”

Minister Gaskin stressed the importance of accuracy of information on the website. “Try to avoid mistakes on the website and do regular fact-checks for accuracy. The more feedback we get, we can further enhance the website.”

The website can be accessed at https://www.guyana-tourism.com/

The second phase of the website will be available at the end of August.
