Guyana attends meeting on ‘Unmet need for contraception…in the time of zika’  

 

Georgetown, Guyana – (June 16, 2016) Guyana, yesterday, wrapped up participation in a three-day meeting titled ‘Responding to Unmet need for Contraception with Evidence and High Impact Practices in Time of Zika’ in Lima, Peru.

On June 7, Cabinet approved the attendance of Dr. Ertensia Hamilton, Director of Maternal and Child Health and Ministry of Public Health at the meeting, which was held from June 13-15, 2016.

The meeting was organised by the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) and conducted by the Latin American Centre for Perinatology/Women and Reproductive Health Unit (CLAP/WR) and Implementing Best Practices (IBP) initiative.

The objective of the forum was to provide guidance to policy makers, directors, health care providers and other stakeholders in the health sector on the essential priority measures to ensure modern contraceptive services, under the framework of human rights for the most vulnerable populations and reduce the impact of unwanted pregnancies in vulnerable and underserved populations.

Expenses for attendance at this meeting were fully funded by PAHO.
