“Guyana can become a hub of innovation and technology”- Min. Gaskin -calls for more ICT use in Business
DPI, GUYANA, Monday, April 30, 2018
Guyana can become a hub for innovation and technology in this part of the hemisphere through the creation of an enabling environment for the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector to flourish says Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin.
Minister Gaskin speaking at the recent launching of the Caribbean Tech lab-Guyana said there is room for improvement in the local ICT sector, making reference to dependence by some sections of society, on archaic ways of solving common problems.
“I believe as a nation we have wasted enough time on backward approaches to various situations and as we enter into a new phase of our economic development I believe it is important that we address the issues of national competitiveness,” he noted.
Minister Gaskin said when it comes to national competitiveness, ICT has a major role to play. He called on the business community to utilise ICT more in their transactions.
The Minister pointed out that ICT skills are exportable, therefore he urged that local solutions be modified and transported around the world through technology.
He added that “none of this is impossible, unless we create the space for this to grow and to become relevant to our country’s development.”
