Guyana records 7th COVID-19 death

The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed that another person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s ICU

This brings the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 to seven. In their update on Saturday, April 18, the Ministry had indicated that there were five persons in the ICU.

As of April 19, 2020, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Guyana now stands at 65.

Of these 65 cases there have been nine recoveries.

To date, a total of 322 persons have been tested with 257 of those testing negative.

Twenty-one persons are in institutional quarantine while 49 others are in isolation.  Four persons are housed in the COVID-19 ICU at GPHC.

Globally, WHO has recorded 2,160,207 confirmed cases with 146,088 deaths. While in the Region of the Americas there are 784,272 confirmed cases with 35,742 deaths.

Citizens are asked to always wear a facemask when leaving their homes and to practice social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus diseases.
