Guyana to attend several international meetings

Guyana, in the Month of June, will be represented at several international meetings. The disclosure was made at post-Cabinet weekly press briefing by Director-General at the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon.

Guyana will be participating in the Regional Trade Policy Course organised by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI). The course will run from June 3 to 26, 2019 and will be conducted by the Institute of International Relations at UWI. Representing Guyana are Foreign Officers two Naomi Adams-Insanally and Colin Luckie of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Director-General Harmon also informed that Guyana received invitation from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in cooperation with the Government of France.

The eighth EITI global conference commences on June 17 and goes until June 19, 2019 at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Conference Centre in Paris, France.

Deputy Coordinator of the Guyana’s EITI National Secretariat, Diane Barker, Government representative of the Multi-stakeholder group Gillian Pollard, Industry representative of EITI Multi-stakeholder group Ryan Ramjit and Civil Society representative, Gomin Kamash will be representing Guyana.

Guyana was accepted as an EITI implementing country in October, 2017 and submitted its first EITI report on April 25, 2019.

Cabinet also approved Guyana’s attendance at the Inter-Governmental meeting of the Convention for the Protection and Development of the Marine Environment of the Wider Caribbean Region. The convention will be held in Honduras from June 3 to 6, 2019. Guyana will be represented by Commissioner of the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission Alona Sankar.
