La Parfaite Harmonie, Recht-door-Zee to get community grounds
– govt providing recreational spaces for youth

La Parfaite Harmonie and Recht-door-Zee are slated to have community grounds and multipurpose centres in full operation within the next four weeks.
The announcement was made by Permanent Secretary of the Department of Social Cohesion, Melissa Tucker.
Tucker said that the Community Development Council is handling an additional $5M that will go towards the construction of multipurpose grounds. “I know for a fact that there has been a ground identified in La Parfaite Harmonie that the region will be developing,” she explained.
The two West Bank Demerara, Region Three communities are part of the Malgre Tout/Meer Zoorgen Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).
Apart from an upgraded recreational space, youths in these areas can also expect to benefit from the Volunteerism Support Platform which will prepare them for the world of work.
“We bring students that would have recently graduated and we provide on the job training. They also will receive a stipend. They are placed across various departments at the ministry and would have that experience whether it be for six months to a year to prepare them for actual employment,” Tucker added.
These announcements were all made at a Government engagement with key community leaders and other residents of La Parfaite Harmonie and its environs including Recht-door-Zee, Lust-en-Rust, Westminster, Onderneeming and Schoonard held at the La Parfaite Harmonie Primary School.
In attendance were Prime Minister, Hon. Moses Nagamootoo, Minister of Communities, Hon. Ronald Bulkan, Minister within the Ministry Communities, with responsibility for Housing, Hon. Annette Ferguson, Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Hon. Jaipaul Sharma and Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon.
Over $200M has been allocated to youth in the budget to help with training, entrepreneurship, night school and technical and vocational education.
It was highlighted that following review of the issues stemming from various regional outreaches held across the country, certain communities have been selected for follow-up engagements to address resident’s concerns.
