Item: Launch of RODEO 2019

Rodeo 2019 was officially launched today 1st of February 2019 at a simple but significant ceremony held at the Rupununi ECO Hotel here in Lethem Region #9. Rodeo will be held on the 20th and 21st of April 2019.Present at the launching were, the Regional Chairman Brian Allicock, His Worship the Mayor John Macedo, representative of the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce, heads of departments, the business community and the Banking sector.

Rebecca Faria Chairman of the Rodeo Committee (Rupununi Livestock Producers Association) in her opening remarks thanked the invitees for coming, she also thanked them for their continued support and used the opportunity to thank the Government for the support given over the years. She indicated the association’s willingness to listen to new ideas and suggestions.

Regional Chairman Brian Allicock in his remarks urged businesses and stakeholders along with persons in the region to work together, He stressed the importance of Rodeo as a national event and its importance to the Region, he challenged persons to come up with alternative options of providing accommodation for visitors during the Rodeo, he suggested, tent city, and bread and breakfast.

Mayor John Macedo and past Chairman of the Rodeo Committee, highlighted the fact that nothing can stop Rodeo, He indicated that almost 20 years ago Rodeo brought him to Lethem and he is still here, he thanked the present Rodeo committee for the excellent work they are doing and pledged the full support of the Town council, “Rodeo as a regional event, Rodeo as a national event, now Rodeo as an international event” he wished them every success.

Rodger King spoke on behalf of the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce, and stated that Rodeo is the largest revenue generating event in Region #9 and as such he encouraged the business community to continue to support Rodeo, not only those here in Lethem but those external to Lethem who benefit directly or indirectly from this event.

Mr. Ralph treasurer of Rodeo Committee ( Rupununi Livestock Producers Association) give an overview of the vision of the Rodeo committee and where they envision Rodeo by 2020, part of this vision was the launching of the Rodeo web site,

The website was presented by Raymond Hunte, consultant attached to the Rupununi Livestock Producers Association. This site has given Rodeo the ability to reach out to the world and the ability to embrace social media.
