Linden family presented with new home
─ 3-bedroom house donated by Min. Trotman
DPI, Guyana, Monday, March 25, 2019
Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, on Sunday, presented a Linden family, with a new three-bedroom modern concrete house.
The minister, his wife, along with regional officials and AFC executives, were present at the simple ceremony where the home was presented to June Allicock of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Allicock, a grandmother, was deemed worthy of receiving the gesture after she was left to take care of her grandchildren who were left motherless. Her daughter, Shemeika Allicock was allegedly murdered at the hands of her husband in 2017, leaving behind five children. At the time of her murder, Shemeika was living with her mother in an unfinished house.
Initially, the family had to find an alternative place of abode because the children were psychologically affected having to remain in the same home where the gruesome act took place.
The situation was brought to the attention of Minister Trotman, who decided to assist by constructing the three-bedroom concrete home.
“I am glad that we were able to get it done, but more importantly, you and the children have a home that you can rest comfortably,” he told Grandmother Allicock.
The minister also acknowledged the contractor for displaying patience, until the completion of the project.
Fighting back tears, the visibly overjoyed grandmother said “today, I have mixed emotions, but I feel good, really good. I have everybody around me and I am feeling really happy.”
