Several Linden small business owners who benefitted from grants and loans through the Small Business Bureau (SBB) are creating more employment opportunities for members of their communities.
These businesses were recently visited by the Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin.
One such enterprise, 104.3 Power Guyana FM, has been in operation since 2013 and is owned and operated by Haslyn Graham and his team.
Graham spoke to the Department of Public Information (DPI) about the benefits the loan has afforded him. “The process with the Small Business Bureau has been very, very helpful… and what they [the Small Business Bureau] do is much needed in our community. Also, they are instrumental in helping to bridge businesses with the Government and other lending agencies for our success,” Graham said.
As the only Marketing and Broadcasting Radio Station serving Region 10, the small company is looking to expand its services as far as Georgetown.
Graham added, “They literally help guide you through the entire process and my business has really benefitted. I am also looking to expand to Georgetown and other areas and this loan really helped me out with that.”
Another flourishing small business in operation for over 10 years in the Linden community is Hyacinth’s Bed and Breakfast, which offers employment opportunities to other small business and self-employed persons in Region 1o.
The proprietor, Samuel Wright told DPI that “… the Small Business Bureau is really good because they help to develop small businesses by assisting them to market themselves better and learn how to predict future trends so they can have a better sense of what can happen when operating their ventures.”
The Small Business Bureau, which falls under the purview of the Ministry of Business, has been customising loans and services for small business throughout Guyana.
