Linden residents are benefitting from effective measures being implemented by the Linden Town Council to address their solid waste management issue.

Mayor Waneka Arrindell spoke to the Department of Public Information (DPI) about some of these measures.

Mayor of Linden, Waneka Arrindell

“We have been able to purchase two small compactors trucks and through the municipality, both sides would have presented to us one large compactor truck with will be given soon which will help to ease the garbage collection issue that we have in the township.” She said these initiatives will definitely ensure the town’s development.

The mayor explained that the municipality will also create a strategic plan for the rehabilitation of the roads in Wismar and Mackenzie.

“We are identifying those like Red Road Crest, Greenheart Street, those roads that are heavily trafficked by the population. There will also be some small community roads to be upgraded in Wisrock, Green Valley, Christianburg, Blueberry Hill, we have roads in Amelia’s Ward to be patched and Canvas City. So, there are several internal roads that need to be upgraded, however, we will first concentrate on those roads that are essential. Roads that have access to schools, religious organisations, health facilities and then we move onto those minor roads.”

The mayor noted, while the rains have delayed the start of work, all the necessary materials have already been purchased. She said that these measures are among the many initiatives slated to be undertaken by the municipality to develop the town.
