Local Gov’t Minister holds engagements
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Nigel Dharamlall today held meetings with the Local Government Commission and the Ministry’s Sanitation Management Unit.
During his engagement with the senior management of the Local Government Commission, Minister Dharamlall discussed the direction of the 2020 emergency budget, management of issues plaguing local organs and the re-positioning of the Commission following policy guidelines.
Meanwhile, in his sit-down with the head of the Sanitation Management Unit, Mr. Gordon Gilkes and this team of engineers at the Ministry’s Camp Street Annex, the Minister sought to apprise the staff of any change in policy directives and to provide guidance on current challenges.
Minister Dharamlall said he was anticipating site visits to all regions to identify possible landfill sites and where these exist to improve its capacity.
The Minister also led discussions on the pending Solid Waste Management Bill as well as the pace of implementation of works at the Haags Bosch Landfill Site. The team were instructed to include proposals for the disposal of derelict vehicles into their sector report to the Minister.
