Min Ferguson brings Christmas cheer to city children

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, December 15, 2019

The joys of the Christmas season continued on Sunday in the East Ruimveldt community, when Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Hon. Annette Ferguson celebrated with more than 500 children and their parents at the East Ruimveldt community centre.

The Christmas party is an annual event for the community, but this year, Minister Ferguson has collaborated with Minister of Public Health, Hon Volda Lawrence, to entertain children between ages 5 and 12 from the East and West Ruimveldt and Laing Avenue communities.

There was no doubt the children were having a grand time. Their little faces lit up with the beautiful toys and goodies they received as Christmas tunes were belted out from steel pans in the background.

“We know that in this season, a number of our youngsters look forward to such an occasion, where they will be treated to a Christmas social and be given a gift or two,” Minister Ferguson told the DPI.

She also noted that this is a special time of the year for her. “Christmas for me is all about Christ. The advent of Christ. The whole focus on Christmas is not just about Santa Claus or the gifts, it is about Christ himself and what he came on the earth to do.”

Present also at the celebration was Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore and several councillors from Constituency 13.

Minister Ferguson’s wish is a safe and productive 2020.

“On behalf of the government, myself and family I wish every Guyanese a merry Christmas. Remember whatever you do, remember the focus is on the coming of our Lord Jesus.
