Min. Ferguson delivers! Power restored at Onverwagt Power Plant

The Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL Inc.) Onverwagt Power Plant had an issue earlier today that led to a power outage for hours which affected several persons.

This was highlighted during a community meeting hosted by Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson with the residents of Lovely Lass and Golden Grove at the Groden Nursery School.

“Minister, I have 2,000lbs of chicken in a fridge and we had blackout since early this morning, what is happening?” Carol Joseph, an employee of the Hugo Chavez Rehabilitation Centre expressed her frustration at the meeting.

This saw immediate intervention by Minister Ferguson who contacted the Onverwagt Power Station, in West Coast Berbice and was promised that the issue will be rectified promptly.

When asked what caused the three-hour long power outage, Senior Network Technician ,Guyana Power and Light ,Wilson Caleb explained: “This was an unscheduled power outage, and as such, we had to run a maintenance check, but we were able to have power restored.”

Caleb further explained, scheduled maintenance works are done quite often, and those are broadcasted by way of newspapers, PSAs, advertisements and radio broadcasts. Electricity was restored to the area by 13:00hrs.
